Last week it was October break and we went up the west coast of Scotland. It is our favourite place to go and even in bad weather it is a magical place.
We decided this time to stay near to Gairloch as there are things to do just in case the weather is bad. Anyway, our cottage was amazing and well equipped with everything you may need. It was also warm and cosy and had the most amazing views over Skye and the Outer Hebrides (on a clear day).
I'm going to give you a wee break down of what we got up to over the week. There are links in case you fancy exploring this amazing area.
Day 1 - We went for a little walk around the surrounding area along the beach and up over the adjacent hill to the cottage to see if we could see Big Sands beach. We couldn't so the girls were very disappointed.
Day 2 - We decided to try body boarding in the sea!!!! Yes, crazy you may say but we had wet suits on and we thought what the hell. We went down to Big Sands. We all had medium thickness wetsuit on 3/4 thickness and it was my feet that couldn't stand the cold but they got used it eventually. The girls loved it and didn't want to get out.
Day 2 - We walked from North Erradale over to Big Sands campsite. They have a lovely small coffee shop so we could devour cake and then walk back. The walk is about 2 miles there and 2 miles back which was perfect for the girls.
Day 3 - We went out for an explore and visited Cove Light Anti Aircraft Battery and Corrishalloch Gorge which was so beautiful with all the autumnal colours everywhere. Unfortunately, the suspension bridge was shut so we couldn't see down into the gorge at all. It was that deep. We stopped for lunch at Adultbea Hotel and the lunch was lovely.
Day 4 - Our plan was to walk from Melvaig if to Rubha Reith Lighthouse but the weather was so windy we decided to have a day relaxing in the cottage which was really nice. The girls and I did some drawing and painting.
Day 5 - We drove up to Redpoint beach which is a lovely red colour and the sand dunes are huge and really fun to run down. We stopped for lunch at Badachro Inn which sits in a bay. The food was wholesome and it was such a beautiful place to stop and have lunch.
Day 6 - The long drive home. We stopped off at Glencoe Mountain Resort cafe for hot drinks and snacks.
