I thought I would write a little bit about calligraphy and hand lettering today as 'modern calligraphy' seems to be everywhere at the moment (maybe I just think so as I love it so much). Never before has hand lettering looked so good. There are some great examples and I will run through a few below.
I got the Calligraphy bug from seeing Molly Jacques work and she inspired me try calligraphy. Molly also has e-courses you can do in hand lettering if you want to try it.
Closer to home in Glasgow is another Calligrapher I admire Laura E Patrick. Laura does teach Calligraphy if you fancy having a go. She also does photography and design.
I also love Amanda Wright's typography in her designs. Amanda runs a company called Wit & Whistle in America. I have probably mentioned her before as her designs are so fab and very funny.
Another illustrator that also incorporated hand lettering into her work is Stephanie Baxter. She is a freelance illustrator and her website Steph Says Hello is full of great typography illustrations.
Finally an artist you have probably heard of Lisa Congdon. Lisa's story is great as she only started drawing in her 30's and her achievements are amazing. Her style is very Scandinavian but she also incorporates hand lettering into her artwork.
I hope these great illustrators and hand lettering artists inspire you. If there is anyone else that you think is fab and you think I might like, please let me know.
